Design of a process model for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in emergencies

چکیده
The electricity network is one of the most important infrastructures in modern industrialized societies. In the case of power outages, the society becomes aware of their dependence on electricity and organizations responsible for recovery work need precise information about the location and the type of the damage, which are usually not available. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, are aircrafts without a human pilot on board and may help to collect this information. While many technical approaches for UAS exist, a systematic process model for using UAS in emergencies based on the organizations needs is still missing. Based on the presentation of current types of UAS, approaches of using UAS and workshops with organizations responsible for recovery work (police and fire department, public administration, power supplier) this paper presents a process model for UAS in emergencies, especially power outages, which takes both theoretical findings and human experiences into consideration.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) as such in general, need wireless networks in order to communicate. UAS are very flexible and hence allow for a wide range of missions by means of utilizing different UAVs according to the mission requirements. Each of these missions also poses special needs and requirements on the communication network. Especially, mission scen...

Safety and cybersecurity are two emergent behaviors critical to mission success of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This paper presents the concepts driving the initial research investigation of a hazard and vulnerability analysis for the integration of manned-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) using System-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA). The motivation for this analysis is the need to engineer s...
متن کاملA Framework for Integrating the Development of Swarm Unmanned Aerial System Doctrine and Design
Unmanned Aerial System doctrine has been lacking, latent, or ignored as a prescribing design element in the emerging field of swarm technology. In this paper, an integrated methodology for designing a swarm unmanned aerial system (UAS) in parallel with swarm UAS mission doctrine is discussed. The structure of this methodology is derived from heuristics from the model-based systems engineering, ...
متن کاملThe Use of Unmanned Aerial Systems in Marine Mammal Research
Unmanned aerial systems (UAS), commonly referred to as drones, are finding applications in several ecological research areas since remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) technology has ceased to be a military prerogative. Fixed-wing RPA have been tested for line transect aerial surveys of geographically dispersed marine mammal species. Despite many advantages, their systematic use is far from a realit...
